Cake Face

I love cake, don't you? Layer after layer of that smooth, rich cream... how could anyone resist?! But see the thing is, some people love it so much that they choose to look like one on a daily basis. Now, I don't know what possessed them to make them want to look like a cake, but hey, the heart wants want the heart wants.
A cake face could be easily prevented. How? I'll tell you how.

1. Apply a face primer before you apply foundation. Primer will create a barrier between your skin and foundation, so the foundation glides on smoothly.
2. Find a foundation that matches your skin tone. You want it to blend in with your natural skin colour. If your face and neck are two different shades after applying foundation, you obviously have the wrong shade.
3. Apply your foundation with a foundation brush to control application.
4. Set your foundation with a face powder with a fluffy brush. Don't use too much, because you'll end up looking cake-y.

Invest in a good foundation, trust me, it'll be worth it. If you're not sure how to match your shade, you can go to Sephora or MAC and ask them to do it for you.

Thanks for reading, enjoy eating that cake!

How To Clean Your Makeup Brushes

Cleaning your makeup brushes every week is so important and I cannot stress that enough. Every use just means more and more bacteria. So every time you use that brush on your face, not only are you applying makeup, you're making a nice house for bacteria to live on. Bacteria and dirt is the perfect recipe for acne and blemishes. So how do you save your flawless skin? Clean your brushes! It's so easy and won't eat away your time, believe me. Trying to get rid of acne would take 100x longer.

1. Wet the hair of the brush in warm water, with the hair facing down.
2. Use shampoo or liquid hand soap and apply it on the hair.
3. Gently squeeze the hair from top to bottom over and over, adding a little water at time.
4. Rinse and repeat until the water runs clear.
5. Place the brushes on a dry towel and wait till they are completely dry before you use them.

It's that easy! Just these few steps help your makeup look flawless sans unflattering streaks. Not only will your makeup look better, your skin will thank you by gifting you with smooth, clear skin.
Thanks for reading, have fun giving your brushes a bath!

Animal Friendly?

Do you only buy makeup products that are NOT tested on animals? It's cruel, inhuman and torture for makeup to be tested on animals. I try to use products that are not tested on animals, but I admit some products I use are tested on animals.
My favourite company that does not test on animals is Burt's Bees. They also do not use any harsh chemicals in their products; everything comes right from Earth. One of my favourite products from Burt's Bees, is their tinted lip balms. I wrote a review on this products in a few older posts, so check that out if you're interested.
Some other animal-friendly companies: e.l.f, Urban Decay, Benefit, Clinique.

All-Natural Facial Scrub

This is one skin-care method I swear by. All you need is lemon juice, sugar and a cotton pad. Yup, that's it. You don't need to spend a thousand dollars on skin products, you can just open up your refrigerator!
The acid in the lemon works effectively to kill any bacteria and remove blackheads, acne, discolouration, anything like that off your skin and the sugar works as a natural exfoliant to remove the dead skin cells. So what does that add up to? Clear skin, duuuuh.

1. Wash your face with warm water to open up your pores. This will allow the scrub to clean deeper into your pores.
2. Take a cotton pad and dampen it with lemon juice.
3. Put about half a teaspoon of sugar on the cotton pad.
4. Scrub your face in circular motions. Take your time as you move around your entire face.
5. Rinse off your face with cold water to seal the pores and lock in the moisture.
6. You're done!

You can use this scrub once a week, twice a week, whatever you feel works best for your skin. I personally use this twice a week, because I have sensitive skin. Plus, it's not the best idea to exfoliate your skin every day, because you're literally removing a layer of skin, so it can cause over dryness and irritation if used exceedingly.
Best thing about this scrub, it's all natural. No harsh chemicals, no nothing expect all natural ingredients that you can find in your own household.
Thanks for reading, have a great day!

Graduation!

Today I got my Grade 12 Graduation picture taken. I was so nervous this morning, because I know my pictures always turn out to be, well, awkward. For my hair, I decided to burn it every morning how I usually do with a flat iron until it's pin straight and sealed it all in with hairspray so it would stay put. For my makeup, I went with my everyday look with a few extra photo-friendly tweaks. I applied my favourite concealer from MAC, so it wouldn't be evident that I only got 3 hours of sleep last night and did my usual winged eyeliner with Wet n' Wild's Liquid Eyeliner. I love doing a winged eye, because it instantly opens up your eyes and makes you  look so much more awake. I applied Maybelline's Falsies Mascara, to complete my eyes. On my lips, I wore MAC'S Tinted LipGlass in Lychee Luxe. And that was it! Hopefully, my pictures turn out to be decent. The prices for these make up products are listed below:

Wet n' Wild Liquid Eyeliner- ~$3.00
Maybelline Falsies Mascara- $7-$ 10
MAC Pro 'Longwear' Concealer- $18.75
MAC Tinted Lipglass in Lychee Luxe- $15.00

Just A Reminder...

A woman whose smile is open and whose expression is glad has a kind of beauty no matter what she wears.

                                                                                -Anne Roiphe

I know, we all love makeup. But why do you wear it? To enhance your features? To completely transform yourself? If it's to make yourself look like someone you're not, you're abusing the rules of makeup. Makeup should be used to enhance your already beautiful features. If you wear a bright and welcoming smile, you're already half way there. What would makeup do if your face is missing a smile? The look would just be incomplete. Confidence is key, and if makeup makes you feel confident, go nuts. But just don't forget who you are and what God already gave you.

Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm- Review

Tinted lip balms are my best friend when it comes to lip products. I hate wearing lipstick and lip gloss since it feels heavy and the thought of it being an additional ingredient to my food doesn't sound very appetizing to me. You can get this from your local drugstore for about $7 and trust me, you won't be disappointed  The ingredients in all Burt's Bees products are all natural and straight from earth and aren't tested on animals which is another additional bonus.
Anyways, on to the product. These lip balms come in 6 different shades, so you're bound to fall in love with at least one shade. My favourite is Pink Blossom, because it's very subtle and leaves you with kissable pink lips. If you want a more redder tone, I suggest to go for Rose, which is also one of my favourite's when I want more colour in my lips. These lip balms are also very moisturizing, so not only are you getting pigment, you're getting soft baby lips! Sounds good to me.
